For companies & HR

The exits everyone watches deserve better than a portal login.

Senior departures are your organization’s most visible, most brand-sensitive exits, and generic outplacement often makes their impact worse. The Afternoon Shift is a premium transition benefit that goes further, with immediate, human support. We help your leaders close one chapter with dignity, stay connected through invite-only gatherings like our Field Trips, and land into the next opportunity, while safeguarding your employer brand and reducing legal and financial risk.

✓ First contact with your departing leader within 48 hours; a real intake conversation within the week
✓ Clear, published eligibility criteria up front, so you offer it only to leaders who already qualify. No nominating or guesswork: they opt in themselves, and admission is guaranteed when the criteria are met
✓ A monthly engagement summary: status and outcomes only, never personal detail
✓ A defensible, genuinely human answer to “how did we treat the people we let go?”, demonstrating ethical leadership and reducing layoff survivor syndrome among the employees who stay

Quick answers.

Why not use our existing outplacement vendor?

Volume vendors prioritize speed-to-next-job at scale, often overlooking the profound psychological impact of job loss. Where they offer coaching, it rarely comes with the immediate, identity-first, in-person, peer-level support senior leaders need in a visible exit. These leaders experience real work-related identity loss and a hurricane of emotions that transactional services alone can’t address. The Afternoon Shift provides that social and emotional foundation, enabling a more effective and sustainable transition. That’s precisely why we exist.

What if only one person needs it?

Single seats are fine. Participants join a cross-company cohort, so one nominee gets a full group experience without you funding a whole program.

How do you protect the quality of the group experience?

Before anyone joins a gathering, they review and agree to our shared values and a short set of rules of engagement, plus a quick orientation on how we show up for each other. It keeps the room generous and free of the usual networking behavior, which protects both your people and your brand.

Can we offer this to someone outside Boston?

Not yet. In person is the point. Greater Boston first; expansion follows demand.
